National Album Day 2026 (NAD26) release. Talking with the Taxman About Poetry is the third album by Billy Bragg, originally released in September 1986.
This long overdue vinyl reissue comes in a gatefold sleeve and was remastered by John Webber at Air Studios using high-resolution transfers made from master tapes in Billy's archives. This limited-edition National Album Day release in classic black vinyl includes a bonus 7" single featuring "Walk Away Renee" on the A-side and an etching of the Talking About The Taxman album cover art on the B-side.
For Talking with the Taxman About Poetry, Bragg embraced a more fully realised band sound with the help of special guests Kirsty MacColl and Johnny Marr and production courtesy of John Porter (Roxy Music, The Smiths) and Kenny Jones. ÔTaxmanÉÕ was his first top ten album and gave the world some of his most enduring songs in ÔGreetings To The New BrunetteÕ (his first top 40 hit), live favourite ÒLevi StubbsÕ TearsÓ about a victim of domestic abuse taking comfort in the music of the Four Tops, and classic workersÕ anthem ÒThere Is Power in a UnionÓ.
